Omaha Hi-Lo is not the most popular poker game around, with more traditional games like Texas Hold’Em and 7-Card Stud taking preference. That’s a real shame because it’s one of my favourites. Read on for my quick review of 888poker’s Omaha Hi-Lo poker tables.
Getting started with 888poker
888poker makes it easy to get started. If you’re a total newbie to the site, you have to register via the 888poker homepage first. You can do this via any internet browser, on Mac or PC. You can even play with your mobile, as the virtual casino’s software is compatible with most Android and Apple devices.
To get started, click on “New Player” to set up your profile. You’ll have to provide some basic info like your name and age and financial details to make deposits and cashouts.
Once you have your profile set up, you can go ahead and start browsing the tables. 888poker follows the usual Omaha Hi-Lo rules, so if you’re familiar with the game, you shouldn’t expect any big surprises.

Hi-Lo means that two hands are allowed to win, the highest and the lowest. What makes Omaha Hi-Lo stand out (and, in my view, fun) is that there’s usually a qualifier for the low hand. For example, all the cards making up a low hand need to be an eight or below (“split-8-or-better”).
The Rake in 888poker’s Omaha Hi-Lo Games
The rake in the Omaha Hi-Lo games is fair. In case you’re new to the game, the rake is what the poker room charges in commission. 888poker’s tables charge a fee in line with the industry average. For example, you can expect a maximum of $0.50 to be taken out of the pot at a lower stakes table.
In general, the rule of thumb is 1 cent for every 20 cents in the pot. On higher stakes tables, expect the fee to bump up to about $5 (at most).
Promotions for 888 Omaha Hi-Lo Poker Players on 888poker
Before you jump into your first hand of Omaha Hi-Lo poker, make sure to check out the platform’s current promotions. Newcomers benefit from a first deposit bonus, capped at 100% of up to $400. This can give you a welcome boost when you’re first getting started.
If you give the Omaha Hi-Lo programs a try and decide to stick with them, it’s also worth checking out the 888poker loyalty program. Join, and you can take part in various challenges and get points to reward your progress. As you move up levels in the program, you may be awarded tokens, which you can redeem against bonuses and cash.
Competition on the Omaha Hi-Lo Tables
As with most poker sites, you’ll find most of the action on 888poker centered around the Texas Hold’Em tables. However, you’ll still find a decent amount of players in the Omaha Hi-Lo rooms. Expect about 1,000 players to come through on an average day, maybe up to 2,000 on the weekend.

You can also pick and choose your competition, thanks to the “Play With Friends” option. Check into your player “Lobby” and select “Play With Friends.” Don’t see that option? Select “Extra Games,” and it should pop up. If you find people on the tables that you think are great to play with, you can organize your games away from the mainstream action.

You will be able to access cash games 24 hours per day, seven days per week. If you’re new and don’t want to wager big, you’ll find sufficient low-stakes tables available. Games can run for as low as one-cent to two-cents.
Omaha Hi-Lo Tournament Availability
Tournaments make any poker player’s heart beat faster. If you’re like me, you’ve had trouble finding Hi-Lo tournament play in the past. 888poker solves that problem.
There are a lot of options available, from hyper-player tourneys to the Turbo Mega Deep. On this second one, players can get up to 10k of chips and expect blinds every six minutes. There are no rebuys or add-ons. How big is the prize pool? It’s gotten up to $40k in the past. Pretty big!

In addition to tournaments, 888poker also offers featured events where you can take a deeper dive into the exciting game of Omaha Hi-Lo poker. For example, the Mega Deep event allows players to level up to five figures.
There is also a championship series hosted multiple times per year, plus some live events. That’s where you’ll find more pro players on the tables. While that doesn’t impact your online play, it’s always a good sign when the pros play for platform-driven tournaments and speaks to 888poker’s street cred.
Friendliness of the Hi-Lo Tables
If you’re new to the game, the Omaha Hi-Lo tables will offer you good action without scaring you off with overly aggressive players. I generally consider 888poker a player-friendly platform. There are a variety of 24-hour customer support options, including phone, email, and live chat.

Making deposits and withdrawals is also easy, with options ranging from PayPal to credit card. Note that you’ll have to provide proof of identity if you’re trying to withdraw a large sum. This is for your security — another pro of this site.
In Conclusion: Is 888poker’s Omaha Hi-Lo Table Worth Your Time?
In short, yes. While there are some drawbacks (less action than on the Hold’Em tables, for example), overall, I enjoyed my foray into 888poker’s Omaha Hi-Lo games. Also, because 888poker is a trusted platform with good security credentials, I don’t have to worry about the basics like security, transparency, or data privacy.
Ultimately, what I liked the most about 888’s Omaha Hi-Lo is the flexibility. You have so many different options in terms of play, thanks to the variety of tournaments and diversity of players on the platform.
In my opinion, whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned player, you will find a form of Omaha Hi-Lo on 888poker that will suit your style.
